Pick and Choose Must-Do Activities

LEGOLAND California offers a full day of rides, shows, and activities. While working in the seasonal events, you may be hard-pressed to do it all. These are some tips on how to plan out your day:

  • Arrive at opening to maximize a full day at LEGOLAND.
  • The holiday activities take place at various times. Choose your favorite shows and check the guide on the LEGOLAND app to note the times.
  • Most locations are standing room only. Arrive early if you prefer being closer to the action.
  • It’s a great idea to ask the kids pre-trip which of the attractions they are most interested in. Do those things, as you’ll not be able to do them all in a single day.

Is it Crowded During the Holidays at LEGOLAND?

The crowds for this event tend to get heavier the closer the dates are to Christmas. Any time kids are on winter break, you can be sure the theme park will be busy!

If you want to avoid the heavy crowds, plan to attend the first events in November or the dates in early December. Weekdays are generally less crowded than weekends.

What to Pack for LEGOLAND California Holidays?

Phone Charger

If you plan on participating in activities and watching seasonal shows, accessing the holiday party guide map is a must. Guests will use the LEGOLAND app frequently to access the times and locations.

Extra phone use will drain your battery quickly. Bring an external phone charger, like the Anker Power Bank.

LEGOLAND is located in the seaside community of Carlsbad. Once night falls, it will get very chilly!

What Can Little Kids Do at LEGOLAND Holidays?

LEGOLAND is open from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm (select days on which the Holiday event takes place). That makes for a long day, especially for families with babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.

Babies and toddlers aged 2 and under receive complimentary admission to LEGOLAND California. These are some of the best tips for maximizing a day during the holidays at LEGOLAND with little kids.

Arrive at Opening

The first few hours that LEGOLAND are open are the least crowded. By arriving at theme park opening, this can allow guests to visit many of the rides and attractions in the morning with minimal wait times.

Book a Nearby Hotel

When traveling with young children, it’s ideal for families to take an afternoon break. Extend the holiday fun with a local hotel stay.

There are several hotels within walking distance of the LEGOLAND Resort. Keep reading to the bottom of this article for nearby hotel suggestions.

Take a Mid-Day Break

Encourage a nap during the day for young kids. Return to the hotel room for an afternoon rest before going back to the theme park in the evening hours.

More Tips for LEGOLAND with Little Kids

Bring a Stroller – LEGOLAND is spread out and there’s a lot of walking. If your preschooler doesn’t usually use a stroller, it’s still a good idea to bring one to this theme park.

Locker Rental – Consider renting a locker to store items like the diaper bag and jackets.

LEGO-Sized Holiday Touches

It wouldn’t be the holidays without some LEGO fun! These are a few locations not to miss when touring LEGOLAND California during the seasonal event.

MINILAND Scavenger Hunt

Be sure to take a visit to MINILAND U.S.A. to see where the Christmas spirit has been sprinkled! We found many of the buildings have fun holiday touches, including Santa and his sleigh and wreaths decorating the LEGO White House.

MINILAND is also where guests can participate in the Holiday scavenger hunt. See the “Model Citizen” at the Candy Cane Stage for details on what to search for. You’ll be able to snap photos as you find hidden items in MINILAND, then redeem for a Pop Badge prize!

Play With LEGO Bricks

LEGOLAND California offers a hands-on theme park experience. And that means getting your hands on LEGO bricks!

There are dozens of locations all around the theme park for families to build and play LEGO bricks together. Be sure to work in play time when creating your day’s itinerary.

LEGO Shopping

The Big Shop is your best bet when looking for LEGO themed gifts. The shop is large and has an extensive variety, including LEGO ornaments to decorate your Christmas tree!

This souvenir shop will be extremely crowded at the end of the day. Consider shopping early. Request same-day package pick up so you can grab your gifts before you leave the park.

Holiday Eats and Treats

Throughout the park, seasonal treats are sold that will surely get you into the holiday spirit.

For lunch, dine on smoked turkey legs. Sip warm apple cider or hot chocolate, sold at various locations. And for dessert, indulge in churros con chocolate, holiday cookies, and candy apples. These are a few additional items to look for in the park:

  • Holiday Granny’s Apple Fries
  • Merry Mini Beignets
  • Peppermint ice cream
  • Rice pudding
  • Crêpes
  • Yeti milkshake topped with holiday donuts

LEGOLAND Holiday Tip – Dining can get really crowded at LEGOLAND. Food is prepared fresh, so it often takes longer than you might expect to receive your food. Have one person order, while the other gets the table to save time.

LEGOLAND Kids’ New Year

Families love to ring in the New Year at LEGOLAND California! The annual New Year’s Eve Party includes a countdown to midnight (that actually happens at 7:00 pm PT).

Families embark on a special scavenger hunt through MINILAND, with a New Year’s Eve twist. Guests can view fireworks with exclusive 3D glasses that turn the effects into LEGO bricks!

Should You Visit LEGOLAND for More Than One Day?

During the months of November and December, not all areas of the LEGOLAND California resort are open. The LEGOLAND theme park and SEA LIFE Aquarium are operational, but the LEGOLAND Water Park is closed.

The theme park requires a full day to completely explore. Add in the aspect of the LEGOLAND holiday entertainment, and guests should consider visiting on an additional day.

LEGOLAND Hotels Within Walking Distance

If being close to the theme park is important, consider staying at one of the nearby resort hotels within walking distance of LEGOLAND.

On-site LEGOLAND Hotels

The LEGOLAND Hotel and LEGOLAND Castle Hotel are splurges, but worth the extra cost. There are exceptional perks, including close proximity to the park gates and themed rooms. Each guest eats at the complimentary breakfast buffet, and there’s an in-room treasure hunt with a LEGO gift.

Hotel guests also receive early access into the theme park. READ MORE about staying at the LEGOLAND Hotel in California.

Carlsbad Area Hotels

The cost to book an off-site hotel is less than the LEGOLAND themed hotels. These locations still offer exceptional amenities and large rooms.
